I'll be honest. I had a hard time turning the calendar page over to October. Where did the summer go? We have beautiful fall foliage here in Kentucky, so I am looking forward to that and the cooler weather. And, I am so excited that we will be in Reno in just a few short weeks! I hope you are as excited as I am!! We are going to have an awesome time in Reno!
Hopefully you have already made your hotel reservations, but if not, you can find Atlantis Casino Resort Spa information on the FIA website - www.farrierindustry.org.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me at any time via email or call/text me at (502) 779-1522 if you need my assistance.
FIA PROGRESS – President’s View
October was always “pull the shoes” month when I was working in Montana. A lot of farriers ramp up for the fall shows and start to get some of their horses ready to travel out of state too. Depending on your location you may just have business-as-usual. For those that have a bit of a break, I hope that you’ll consider attending the AFA Convention in Reno, NV. FIA MarketPlace 2023 has already surpassed the number of booths sold and vendors that will be there vs. the last time we were in Reno. November 6-10 will be here quickly so get booked soon!
ONCE AGAIN: IGNORE THE SCAMMERS!!!! Please book your room through our host hotel only! Atlantis Casino Resort Spa – Reno information and FIA room block links can be found on the FIA website by clicking the 2023 FIA MarketPlace tab. We know that dozens of FIA members have been contacted by a company that claims to be “with the FIA”, so you may get a call too.
Thank you to the FIA finance committee, led by John Harshbarger of Well-Shod, for stewarding the FIA funds in a responsible manner. Interest rates were right to make some changes and this will help keep revenue growing.
RSVP TODAY: The annual FIA Business Conference breakfast is Thursday, November 9 from 7:30 – 10 am in Grand Ballroom 5-7. Each FIA member can reserve 2 spots via email to margie@farrierindustry.org. We’re expecting a full room, great discussions, and the latest FIA Hall of Legends induction!
Rayzin Kane Business Solutions, the onsite embroiderer at the AFA Convention, will have the new FIA logo ready to stitch in Reno. FIA branding will look great with your company logo on hoodies, hats, jackets or any other item that can be embroidered. Bring your gear or purchase from the store at AFA Convention.
Team captains have been chosen. The questions are ready. One practice session is left in a couple of weeks. That’s right, FARRIER FAMILY FEUD is coming! See farrier industry stars onstage in Reno, competing for cash and prizes. Don’t miss this session on Tuesday before FIA MarketPlace move-in!!!
Our next BOD meeting is October 18 for the last chance, pre-convention planning.

A Most Impressive Horse
A guy is walking through the country when he spots a sign that reads, “Talking Horse for Sale.” Intrigued, he walks up to the stable to check it out.
“So what have you done with your life?” he asks the horse.
“I’ve led a full life,” the horse answers miraculously. “I was born in The Andes where I herded for an entire village. Years later, I joined the mounted police force in New York and helped keep the city clean. And now, I spend my days giving free rides to underprivileged kids here in the country.”
The guy is flabbergasted. He asks the horse’s owner, “Why on earth would you want to get rid of such an incredible animal?”
The owner says, “Because he’s a liar! He never did any of that!”
